Since ancient times, indigenous peoples have taken various steps to manage and protect their territories, promoting monitoring and surveillance activities<\/strong>. Over time, these practices were formalized through the creation of Surveillance and Control Committees (CVCs).<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The CVCs, established in accordance with Law No. 29763, the Forestry and Wildlife Law<\/a>, play a crucial role in the monitoring and conservation of forest resources and wildlife. Through constant patrols and reports of threats, these committees ensure the protection of forests and their natural resources for future generations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In this context, and with the aim of strengthening the capacity of indigenous communities to protect their territories, AIDESEP\u2014with support from the project \u201cContribution to the Updated Implementation Plan of the DCI 2021\u20132025\u201d (DCI Project)\u2014led by MINAM and implemented by Profonanpe\u2014presents the booklet \u201cSurveillance and Control Committees \u2013 Taking Action to Protect Our Territories of Life.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

About the Primer<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This material was designed to provide general information on monitoring and surveillance activities, as well as the processes for collecting, processing, and managing information, and submitting reports on threats and incidents in indigenous territories.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The guide includes detailed information on community experiences in monitoring and protecting their territories, the steps required to establish CVCs, and methods for collecting and managing relevant data. In addition, This material aims to empower indigenous communities by providing them with the tools and knowledge essential for the protection and conservation of their lands.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Distribution and scope<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This handbook will be distributed at the workshops held as part of the DCI Project, as well as at other training sessions related to the monitoring, oversight, surveillance, and protection of defenders of indigenous territories.<\/p>\n
