{"id":35390,"date":"2024-05-24T10:36:00","date_gmt":"2024-05-24T15:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/?p=35390"},"modified":"2025-01-31T12:33:28","modified_gmt":"2025-01-31T17:33:28","slug":"challenges-in-the-sustainability-of-coastal-marine-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/en\/desafios-en-la-sostenibilidad-de-proyectos-marino-costeros\/","title":{"rendered":"Challenges in the sustainability of marine-coastal projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Thursday, May 23, the first edition of Profonanpe's Thematic Roundtables of the year was held, a meeting that, on this occasion, brought together specialists from the public and private sectors and associations involved in the implementation of marine-coastal initiatives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the meeting, the achievements of the Marine-Coastal Adaptation project implemented in Huacho and Mancora, financed by the Adaptation Fund, were presented. Likewise, it was announced that the initiative is in a learning collection stage, thanks to the financing of the Learning Grant granted by the Adaptation Fund, with the purpose of rescuing the good practices of the project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAt Profonanpe, we identified the opportunity to collect good practices from the Coastal Marine Adaptation project, carrying out the exercise of compiling them with the Learning Grant, which gives us the opportunity to collect important information and testimonies from the communities. This knowledge can serve for the continuous learning of the associations themselves and bring these results closer to the decision makers, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said Wilfredo Chac\u00f3n, consultant in charge of managing the Learning Grant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_35394\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35394\" style=\"width: 6960px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-35394\" src=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_2050.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"6960\" height=\"4640\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-35394\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wilfredo Chac\u00f3n, Learning Grand consultant for the project<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The meeting also provided an opportunity to learn from initiatives implemented by UNDP, GIZ, the Ministry of Production, Imarpe, Fondepes and others. Important lessons were learned from them related to knowledge management and governance. In this regard, Juana Kuramoto, Head of Profonanpe's Research and Development Office, noted:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAn important point for these good practices to be replicable in other areas has to do with the management of marine-coastal zones, together with the knowledge of fishermen and institutions that monitor environmental conditions. In addition, it is important to consider how this information is exchanged and how it can help address climate change.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_35393\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35393\" style=\"width: 6960px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-35393\" src=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_2010.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"6960\" height=\"4640\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-35393\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Juana Kuramoto, Head of Research and Development Office<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><b>Experiences and Reflections<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the debate, the roundtables reached several conclusions that highlight the importance of community participation in the design of fishing projects to improve decision-making and ensure sustainability. It is essential that these projects return information to the communities in a comprehensible manner and consider their needs in decision-making. An interdisciplinary approach, the strengthening of social organizations, continuous monitoring and the scalability of knowledge from local to national level are required. These spaces bring together specialists from different sectors: public, private, international cooperation and civil society.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the fourth consecutive year that the Thematic Roundtables have been held and will have 4 sessions.
