The purpose of these workshops was to strengthen the instruments for measuring greenhouse gas mitigation, monitoring and management of the project's environmental and social safeguards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These instruments are key elements, since they will make it possible to establish a protocol for measuring, reporting and verification (MRV) of greenhouse gas emissions at the Amazonian biobusiness level, as well as the project's Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS), through which compliance with biobusiness mitigation goals and international standards can be monitored to reduce the environmental and social risks they may generate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_35225\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35225\" style=\"width: 6648px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-35225 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_9421.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"6648\" height=\"4510\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-35225\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kurt Rothschild, project manager, presented the objectives, components and requirements for eco- and bio-businesses to be part of the EBBF Amazon financial mechanism.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the activity in the city of Lima, the Ministry of Environment, a partner institution of the initiative, presented the preliminary means of verification of Peru's REDD+ safeguards. These safeguards are understood as principles, conditions or social and environmental criteria that guide the design and implementation of policies, programs and other actions. Likewise, the guidelines of the instruments for the management and monitoring of REDD+ safeguards for Amazonian eco- and bio-businesses were shared and validated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_35227\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35227\" style=\"width: 6960px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-35227\" src=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_9433.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"6960\" height=\"4640\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-35227\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Patricia Patr\u00f3n, Technical Specialist. Phase II Joint Declaration of Intent (JIU) Project.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the Madre de Dios and San Martin regions, the safeguard management instruments to be applied by eco- and bio-businesses were disseminated, such as the Environmental and Social Management System (SGAS), the Gender Action Plan (PAG), the Stakeholder Participation Plan (PPPI), the Participation Framework for Indigenous Peoples and the Accountability and Complaints Mechanism (MRCQ).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_35226\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35226\" style=\"width: 9974px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-35226 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/grupales.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"9974\" height=\"3972\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-35226\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Group workshops in San Mart\u00edn and Madre de Dios, respectively<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These instruments are of significant importance, as the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the project's donor, requires compliance with these policies to ensure that each eco- and bio-business can participate in the necessary conditions of sustainability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The general guidelines of the protocol for measuring, reporting and verifying greenhouse gas emissions, which are the basis for the protocol to be followed to measure the impact of biobusinesses in terms of emissions mitigation, were also disseminated.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The meeting was attended by representatives of national indigenous organizations, as well as local associations and different eco-bio-businesses linked to ecotourism, agroforestry and the timber industry, among others. Although the importance of the shared instruments was recognized, the need to adjust them to the context of the participants was emphasized, in order to facilitate the implementation of the financial mechanism and the participation of indigenous peoples.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4><b>About the EBBF Amazon Project:<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The EBBF Amazon\u00eda project, financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and executed by Profonanpe, will provide technical assistance and partially reimbursable grants to eco- and bio-businesses to support the sustainable management and conservation of Amazonian forests. EBBF Amazon\u00eda will also support the development of technical and institutional capacities at the public and private levels, seeking to contribute to the strengthening of Peru's REDD+
