{"id":32126,"date":"2023-12-17T22:00:55","date_gmt":"2023-12-18T03:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/?p=32126"},"modified":"2023-12-17T22:32:14","modified_gmt":"2023-12-18T03:32:14","slug":"profonanpe-en-la-cop28-hitos-para-la-adaptacion-al-cambio-climatico-y-equidad-de-genero","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/en\/profonanpe-en-la-cop28-hitos-para-la-adaptacion-al-cambio-climatico-y-equidad-de-genero\/","title":{"rendered":"Profonanpe at COP28: Milestones for climate change adaptation and gender equality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During COP28, the United Nations Climate Change Conference, which took place in Dubai from November 30 to December 12, 2023, <\/span><b>Profonanpe, Peru&#039;s environmental fund, stood out as a key player in the implementation of innovative environmental initiatives.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for biodiversity conservation and mitigation and <\/span><b>adaptation to climate change.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Claudia Godfrey, Director of Innovation and Strategic Management at Profonanpe,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> On Saturday, December 2nd, he was present at a panel led by the <\/span><b>Adaptation Fund,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in which he was able to share our experience in developing a pilot Early Warning System for fisheries, as part of the <\/span><b>implementation of the Marine Coastal Adaptation Project,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which concluded in March of this year and aimed to contribute to reducing the vulnerability of coastal communities to the impacts of climate change. This project was funded by the Adaptation Fund.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, within the framework of our commitment to the <\/span><b>Environmental, social and gender objectives, Claudia Godfrey participated as a speaker during \u201cGender Day\u201d,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in a space organized by Sathsathai in the Nepal Pavilion. In this forum, called <\/span><b>\u201cClimate Change and its impact on vulnerable groups\u201d highlighted the need to work towards gender equality and closing the gaps.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in environmental projects, where women are recognized as a group in a more vulnerable situation due to multiple historical, social and economic factors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From Profonanpe, it was possible to highlight the fundamental role that women have played in the field for achieving results in the projects we implement throughout Peru, as well as their increasingly prominent participation, in which, however, they still identify <\/span><b>several challenges and opportunities for improvement to ensure sustainable development.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-32131 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2023-12-11-at-23.44.51-1-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"951\" height=\"713\" srcset=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2023-12-11-at-23.44.51-1-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2023-12-11-at-23.44.51-1-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2023-12-11-at-23.44.51-1-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2023-12-11-at-23.44.51-1.jpeg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 951px) 100vw, 951px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the day of December 5th and <\/span><b>As an entity accredited to the Green Climate Fund, Profonanpe presented its experience in the design and implementation of initiatives in the Peruvian Amazon,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the launch of preparatory support for the project <\/span><b>\u00abExpanding the co-management model of Communal Reserves to reduce emissions and increase the resilience of Indigenous Peoples in the Peruvian Amazon,\u201d by Anecap and the GCF, and which was attended by Conservation International.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Profonanpe was also part of the <\/span><b>\u201cPresentation of the Community of Practice for Direct Access Entities (CPDAE)\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the Ivory Coast and Panama Pavilions, and on December 8, in the Climate Funds Pavilion <\/span><b>Global Environment Facility (GEF), Adaptation Fund (AF), Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in which the progress of the CPDAE was presented and the challenges for accreditation and reaccreditation were addressed, from the experience of Profonanpe as a fund accredited by both the <\/span><b>Green Climate Fund as Adaptation Fund.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Given that Peru is a country vulnerable to the effects of climate change, we were panelists at the forum &quot;Improving climate-resilient development in Latin America and the Caribbean&quot;., <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in which the lessons learned from the Marine Coastal Adaptation project were shared, which are very relevant to the context of climate crisis in which we find ourselves, and which demands urgent action from the public, private and civil society sectors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-32132 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2023-12-11-at-23.44.51-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"946\" height=\"710\" srcset=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2023-12-11-at-23.44.51-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2023-12-11-at-23.44.51-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2023-12-11-at-23.44.51-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2023-12-11-at-23.44.51.jpeg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 946px) 100vw, 946px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the session on December 10, Claudia also participated in the panel of <\/span><b>GCF \u201cCatalyzing Change: Integrity and Accountability in Climate Action\u201d with the Ministry of Environment of Rwanda.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In the implementation of environmental projects, the channeling and management of donor funds is essential to ensuring project success and building trust, a crucial asset for sustainable actions and government support. Throughout this time, the need to work alongside Indigenous communities and the private sector has become evident. These key partners are essential for environmental funds to collaborate on the sustainable management of natural resources through the mobilization of economic resources and the use of cutting-edge technologies.
