After many years of waiting, the native communities that belong to the Corrientes Basin, in the Loreto region, are closer to recovering those ecosystems that were affected as a result of hydrocarbon activities, since the first call for national and foreign consulting companies that wish to provide environmental remediation services in this area, within the framework of the Contingency Fund for Environmental Remediation, has already begun.<\/p>\n

Interested companies should complete the forms on Profonanpe's call for proposals portal (https:\/\/convocatoriasprofonanpe.vform.pe\/<\/a>), a private environmental fund that will manage the contracting of the remediation company. The deadline for submitting expressions of interest is from 09\/20\/2023 to 10\/02\/2023.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The objective of the service is to apply the remediation technology established in the remediation plan approved by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), achieve the levels of environmental quality standards (ECA), implement the social and environmental plan, and ensure rehabilitation through the installation, monitoring and follow-up of reforestation and post-remediation activities.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cThe environmental remediation operations will be carried out at the impacted site S0111, located near the Shiviyacu Oilfield in lot 192, near the Jos\u00e9 Olaya native community, in the district of Trompeteros, province and region of Loreto,\u201d explained Flor Blanco, manager of Profonanpe's Environmental Liabilities Program.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He also indicated that the process is being carried out thanks to the articulated work between the State through the Ministries of Energy and Mines, Environment, Health, Housing and Agriculture, as well as the indigenous federations of the Corrientes Basin and Profonanpe as Technical, Financial and Administrative Secretariat of the Contingency Fund.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It should be noted that the environmental remediation process is a long and complex path that involves several stages: from the identification of impacted sites to post remediation monitoring.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It was reported that this is a first call, but that others will be launched later, since 12 more sites are in the pipeline for remediation. \u201cThis is an important moment, since the remediation will allow the restoration of affected ecosystems and give back their livelihoods to Peruvians living in native communities,\u201d concluded the Profonanpe representative.<\/p>\n

ON THE CONTINGENCY FUND <\/strong>FOR ENVIRONMENTAL REMEDIATION<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Contingency Fund for Environmental Remediation was created in 2015 by the Peruvian State, in order to remediate those environmental liabilities generated by hydrocarbon activities that involve risks to health and the environment and that merit priority and exceptional attention.<\/p>\n
