The 24th edition of the congress was held over 4 days. <\/span>RedLAC2022<\/span><\/a>, The event brought together environmental funds from Latin America and the Caribbean to exchange experiences on environmental finance and opportunities in the world of environmental conservation. At the closing ceremony, it was announced that Profonanpe, Peru's private environmental fund, would organize the next congress, to be held in the city of Cusco in 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n

The RedLAC environmental funds network comprises 27 delegations from 19 countries, which meet annually to address issues of relevance to the community, in line with global conservation goals. Through conferences, panels, and workshops, the environmental funds participate in discussions about innovation and opportunities in the world of conservation; they also showcase the initiatives they are leading in their countries for sustainable environmental development.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cConserve Birds\u201d<\/b><\/h4>\n

On the first day of the event, Profonanpe, together with the <\/span>National Audubon Society<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Action Fund<\/span><\/a> from Colombia, the <\/span>Sustainable Environmental Investment Fund<\/span><\/a> from Ecuador and the <\/span>Foundation for the Conservation of the Chiquitano Forest<\/span><\/a> from Bolivia <\/span>They presented the initiative \u201c<\/span>Preserves Birds<\/span><\/a>\u201d, which seeks to protect the region's bird ecosystems through the creation of protected areas in 9 countries.<\/span><\/p>\n

This inclusive conservation strategy brings together for the first time <\/span>Three leading bird conservation organizations (ABC, BirdLife, and Audubon) and the RedLAC environmental funding community are involved. The call for proposals for Peru is expected to begin in November of this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

In his participation, Anton Willems, CEO of Profonanpe, highlighted the work being done in Peru for the effective management of protected natural areas, through the initiative \u201cNatural Heritage of Peru<\/a>\u201dwhich brings together the work of Profonanpe and Sernanp: \u201c<\/span>The most important strategy is ensuring that people in the affected areas benefit from conservation. To achieve this, we need protected areas on paper and organizations committed to the cause and committed to it over time. Environmental funds have been part of this story for many years and will continue to be so for many more, bringing financial innovations, fresh perspectives, and public advocacy at the local, regional, and national levels, across our network and in various forums.<\/span><\/i>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Cusco, host of RedLAC2023<\/b><\/h4>\n

During the closing ceremony, Profonanpe was presented as the organizer of the 25th RedLAC Congress, which will take place next year. It was announced that the event will be held in the city of Cusco, a region that is home to two of the country's most representative protected natural areas: the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu and Manu National Park.<\/span><\/p>\n
