From August 18 to 21, ExpoAmaz\u00f3nica 2022, the most important regional event in the Amazon, was held at the Toribio Rodr\u00edguez de Mendoza National University in Chachapoyas. It brought together public, private, and international entities working for the development of the Peruvian Amazon region. Three bio-businesses from the Datem Wetlands Project of Profonanpe, Peru's private environmental fund, participated in the event, achieving successful sales by selling all the products they brought to the fair.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Katinbaschi, Apuapisem and Shakaim cooperative bio-businesses are the 3 bio-businesses that, beyond seeking profitability<\/span>And economic development finds its main value in the care of its ecosystem and the sustainable use of the resources of its territory.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, during ExpoAmaz\u00f3nica, Profonanpe was in charge of promoting the session \u201cBiobusinesses for sustainable development\u201d in the Sustainable Amazonia forum, which brought together representatives from the Ministry of the Environment, Yunkawasi, Rainforest Partnership Peru, Rainforest Alliance and Sernanp, to highlight the value of biobusinesses and their importance in the protection and conservation of protected natural areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab"Bio-businesses are a strategy for conservation, but for whom? How can we achieve a sustainable development model that stops illegal activities? We are racing against time to make bio-businesses profitable," commented Patricia Balbuena, Director of the Datem Wetlands Project, during her presentation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Profonanpe also participated in 3 additional sessions, sharing experiences and opinions on different topics such as the importance of recognizing the territory of Indigenous or Native Peoples, the work of the regions in their Protected Natural Areas and the financing systems for sustainable businesses in the Amazon.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also, during the 4 days of Expoamaz\u00f3nica, the projects Natural Heritage Initiative of Peru and Ensuring the Future of Protected Natural Areas presented The most valuable house in the world<\/strong><\/a>, A campaign for the conservation of Peru's Protected Natural Areas. Through an interactive tour, participants learned about the diverse protected areas of our Amazon rainforest, as well as the flora and fauna that inhabit them. This campaign was developed in cooperation with SERNANP and our strategic partners GEF, WWF, KfW, ASL, Moore Foundation, and Andes Amazon Fund.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, the Innova Project boosted visits to the website. Peru by Nature<\/strong><\/a> through a QR code. This platform seeks to raise funds to contribute to the sustainability of our Protected Natural Areas and, as a launch, you can already find information and donate to the following Protected Natural Areas: Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, Tambopata National Reserve, Tingo Mar\u00eda National Park and Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.<\/span><\/p>\n
