July, 2022. \u2013<\/b> The documentary <\/span>Resilient Fishing<\/strong>, Produced by Peru's private environmental fund, Profonanpe, this documentary aims to highlight the silent battle being waged in the country's fishing communities against the impact of climate change, which is particularly affecting artisanal fishing. The audiovisual production will premiere on Saturday, July 2nd, in the beach resort of Los \u00d3rganos, Piura, and will feature the fishermen and women working on the project. <\/span>\u00ab<\/span>Adaptation to the impacts of the marine coastal ecosystem of Peru and its fisheries<\/span>\u00bb,<\/span> which promotes the environmental fund in the area.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The documentary portrays the urgent needs and expectations of fishing communities and the close link of their lifestyle with the sea and hydrobiological resources.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab<\/span>We are very excited to know that the stories of Ubaldo, Josefa, and Ver\u00f3nica will reach thousands of Peruvians, who will learn in greater detail about the efforts being made to create a fishing community with a high degree of adaptability to climate change."\u00bb<\/span>, Jos\u00e9 Zavala, general coordinator of the Marine-Coastal Adaptation (AMC) project, pointed out.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Resilient Fishing<\/strong> It is a sample of the work that the project has been doing. <\/span>\u00ab<\/span>Adaptation to the impacts of the marine coastal ecosystem of Peru and its fisheries<\/span>\u00bb<\/span> financed by the Adaptation Fund and promoted by the Ministry of Production, IMARPE, the national program <\/span>\u00ab<\/span>Let's Eat Fish<\/span>\u00bb<\/span> and Profonanpe. This initiative promotes adaptation measures to reduce the vulnerability of fishing communities in M\u00e1ncora and Huacho to climate change through four pillars:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

o<\/span> \u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Implementation of adaptation measures: <\/b>To foster the technical and productive capacities of fishing communities to engage in new economic activities such as aquaculture, the use of sustainable fishing gear, experiential tourism, the enhancement of marine ecosystems, and the production of biofertilizers. These activities improve the livelihoods of fishing communities and minimize damage to the marine ecosystem.<\/span><\/p>\n

o\u00a0 <\/span>Technological and scientific development: <\/b>Expand the capacity for oceanographic data collection with new technological tools, state-of-the-art equipment (gliders), and information generation through oceanographic modeling and participatory marine monitoring (MiMar app).<\/span><\/p>\n

o \u00a0 <\/span>Knowledge generation and fisheries governance: <\/b>through knowledge dissemination platforms for marine coastal areas, as well as support for the different agents involved in strengthening environmental governance by providing different management tools.<\/span><\/p>\n

o\u00a0 <\/span>Women's empowerment and generational change:<\/b> to promote the participation of women in new spaces linked to artisanal fishing, and also ensuring the participation of young people in the activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab<\/span>Resilient Fisheries has allowed us to connect with fishing communities through vulnerability assessments of pilot areas, as well as ecological risk assessments to develop intervention measures and thus reduce the impact of climate change. These and other parallel actions have allowed us to achieve direct benefits such as increased income for fishers and an increase in formalization processes in the areas of influence,\u00bb said Anton Willems, CEO of Profonanpe.<\/span><\/p>\n
