The fair also highlighted the role of women in the conservation, transmission, and preservation of traditional knowledge related to the sustainable use of biodiversity. An example of this is the valuable knowledge about the use of medicinal plants that the indigenous peoples of our country have passed down from generation to generation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-22291\" src=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/8ML8571-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1271\" height=\"847\" srcset=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/8ML8571-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/8ML8571-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/8ML8571-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/8ML8571.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1271px) 100vw, 1271px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Vilma Ucharico explaining the medicinal plants she works with.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Traditional knowledge, developed from experience<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hilaria Huam\u00e1n, from the city of Urubamba, Cusco, told the group of women that, \u201cbetween February and March, the rainy season, the women of my community organize ourselves to collect the panti flower (from the Quechua word &#039;panty&#039;) from the highlands. It only blooms at this time of year, so we gather some flowers and dry them to use throughout the year, as it relieves colds, the flu, and stomach aches caused by the cold at high altitudes.\u00ab These are acquired customs passed down from generation to generation, practices so ancient \u00bbeven dating back to the time of the Incas,\u00bb Hilaria affirms.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vilma Ucharico, originally from the city of Llave in Puno, explained that she was motivated to learn about medicinal plants from a young age. \u201cIt was necessary because I had to help my mother, who suffered from a serious illness,\u00bb she said. Today, at 22, she knows a great deal about plants and has become her family&#039;s doctor, as everyone consults her.
