This award is inspired by the work and legacy of engineer Carlos Ponce, a master and benchmark for nature conservation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this Bicentennial year, the categories for which individuals committed to conservation can be nominated are: Conservation Champion, Distinguished Park Ranger, Outstanding Park Ranger, Outstanding Young Conservationist, and Environmental Personality. The latter is an honorary recognition for a renowned conservationist who, throughout their career, has contributed to supporting and advancing conservation efforts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2021 Carlos Ponce del Prado Award \u2013 promoted by Conservation International, the Andes Amazon Fund, the Wildlife Conservation Society, and Profonanpe, with the support of the Ministry of the Environment and the National Service of Natural Protected Areas (SERNANP) \u2013 highlights the new challenges and aspirations that have emerged in the last two years. We are now more aware than ever of the need to actively engage in biodiversity protection to ensure the survival of our planet, while also paying closer attention to the efforts of the communities that inhabit our protected natural areas to keep them afloat each day, in the face of threats from various sectors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thus, the Bicentennial edition of the Carlos Ponce Award acknowledges that it cannot ignore the commitment citizens have made to the country&#039;s sustainable development, a commitment rooted in a multidisciplinary, gender-sensitive, intercultural, and intergenerational approach. Conserving our natural home requires everyone working together.
